Several things may cause us to develop wrinkles. Aging, stress(as a working mother, I know all about this part), illness, lifestyle, etc. However, when the wrinkles start appearing, our thoughts shift to what is essential: stop or reduce them. If you are struggling with wrinkles, here are a couple of easy steps you can take today to reduce them:
1. Lifestyle Changes
Our lifestyle can bring on wrinkles. If your daily activities leave you feeling very stressed, they might be predisposing you to wrinkles. Also, social habits like smoking, or always frowning, or similar facial expressions can often lead to wrinkling. So, modify your activities as much as possible so they are less stressful, cut down on smoking, and try to put on a smile. Lastly, you may want to reduce heavy makeup as these may overload your face with chemicals that hurt it in some cases. Then also create the habit of regularly washing your face to get rid of accumulated dirt and toxins that may be damaging your skin cells.
2. Avoid Heavy Sun Exposure Or Use Sunscreen
Massive exposure to sunlight (due to the UV rays) can cause you to wrinkle faster, so I would recommend reducing the amount of sunlight you are getting. If you fancy a day at the beach, my going advice would be to use sunscreen!
3. Dietary Modifications
There are a couple of things you can add or cut down on In your diet to reduce wrinkling. You should:
- Cut down on sugar as excess sugar can dispose you to wrinkle
- Add antioxidants (which protect your skin cells from getting damaged) such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, etc., to your diet as this helps protect you from wrinkles. So ideally, your diet should contain kidney beans, spinach, carrot, Tomatoes as these foods contain the relevant nutrients.
- Other foods you should consider adding to your diet include sardines, avocadoes, potatoes, walnuts, etc.
4. Drink More Water
Hydration is vital for skin health. One of the critical signs of dehydration is sunken, flabby skin, which can cause wrinkling. Therefore, the better you keep hydrated, the more likely your skin will get healthy and supple. So, make it an intentional act of self-care to hydrate regularly.
5. Use Anti-Wrinkle Products
There are a couple of products available to reduce wrinkling. Among the ones I’d recommend that you check out include:
Coconut Oil
This oil works well for many people. It is believed to improve collagen production (a vital skin protein), fill in epidermal gaps, and reduce the number of wrinkles present on the face. It is also a potent antioxidant and good moisturizer.
Lemon Leaf Tea
This type of tea is also thought to have important anti-wrinkle properties when drunk regularly.
Collagen Supplements
Collagen is an essential skin protein that is responsible for healthy and smooth skin. Deficiencies in collagen production can cause wrinkling, so collagen supplements aim to counter that by boosting the amounts of collagen in the body. While there are several collagen supplements, I use and recommend the Belixz Magnifiq Collagen drink.
Anti-Wrinkle Lotions
There are many lotions with different formulations available to counter wrinkling. I would recommend going for one that is mild and gentle on the skin.
